REPUBLIC OF PANAMA MINISTRY OF WORK AND LABOR DEVELOPMENT

Executive Decree No. 93
Which sets the new minimum wage rates throughout the national territory

THE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC
in exercise of his constitutional and legal powers.

CONSIDERING:

That the Government of the Republic of Panama, aware of its responsibility prompted the right conditions so that social partners (employers and workers), maintain a permanent dialogue, so that a consensus on the revision of the minimum wage is reached, considering the social and economic realities in general of the country;

That the article 66 of the Constitution of the Republic provides that the law shall establish the way of periodically adjusting the minimum wage of the worker;

That the article 174 of the Labour Code states that the minimum wage will be set periodically at least every two (2) years, on the recommendation of the National Minimum Wage Commission and by decree of the Executive Branch;

Which also provides for the Labour Code in its article 175 that when there is no fixed minimum wage for certain profession or trade, shall apply the prescribed to the activity for where the service is provided;

That the National Minimum Wage Commission, in compliance with the functions assigned to it in articles 173 and 174 of the Labour Code, agreed by consensus between the labor, business, and government sectors, and therefore recommends that the Executive Branch, through the Ministry of Work and Labor Development, sets a new minimum wage that should govern the country.
