ANIMALS ABUSE
Dec 01, 2017

PEOPLE WHO ABUSE ANIMALS IN PANAMA WILL FACE UP TO TWO YEARS IN PRISON

The National Government approved Law 70 of October 31, 2017 which amends an article on the Criminal Code in relation to animal abuse.

It establishes that the person who performs acts of cruelty, causes death or seriously harms an animal considered a pet, shall be punished with imprisonment of a year and a half up to two years, or its equivalent in daily fines or weekend imprisonment if the offence is proven.

This law amends article 421 of the Single Text of the Criminal Code and was created accepting the suggestion of the civil society due to the great number of cases reported during the last years in our country evidencing animal abuse.
